A Message From The Principal

Dear Berkeley Glenn Families,
Thank you for a wonderful start to what is shaping up to be another wonderful school year.  I know there have been several changes that we are all still getting use to, but I so appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we implement the changes.

One change that you have embraced is our health conscience initiatives.  You have been very cooperative and understanding to place your "fast food" lunches in other bags when coming to eat lunch with your child.  The other healthy choice is adhere to our "no cupcake" rule.  I have been stunned by the creative alternatives that you have presented to support us while still having great birthday treats for the class.  I can tell you the students' reactions have been amazing!

Another change was implementing the use of info snap.  Many of you have completed that program on line at this time.  It is very important that the on-line forms are completed and student information is updated.  Please if you have not had a chance to complete it, do so as soon as possible.  There is important information that we need as field trip begin this week.  If you do not have access to a computer at home or are having trouble completing the form, there are computers for public use at the Waynesboro Library and we have computers available in the school front office for parent use.  If you come to the school during our regular hours, our very knowledgeable secretaries are happy to assist you.

One other safety item that I would like to mention, concerns car rider drop-off in the morning and early dismissals in the afternoons. The tardy bell rings at 8:10 which means the child must be in the classroom by that time to be considered on time.  We have staff on duty in the mornings out front and the "little green men" to remind everyone of safety.  If you arrive after 8:08, do not see someone still on duty and the "little green men" are gone, you will need to park and escort your child in to receive a tardy slip and get his/her lunch ordered.  We started this practice last year, but it is one that is always good to remind parents/guardians of from time to time.  This year there are no early dismissals allowed after 2:15 as the front parking lot is a very congested by that time.  Keeping everyone safe is top priority!  Thanks for your cooperation!

Lastly, I want to highlight a few upcoming events.  First, I would like to invite you to come out and participate in our PTO Harvest Festival on September 30th.  It is a great school community event!  Information was sent home in your child's Friday folder.  Information is also available on the PTO Facebook page.  I would encourage you to request to join that group.  Finally, walk-to-school week will be held October 3 - 7.  We would really like to have 100% participation this year.  Please also look for addition information in your child's Friday folder for that event.

Sincerely,
Leola Burks, principal
